Kara Valikai is the Senior Manager of International Sourcing for the Women’s Economic Empowerment Initiative at Walmart. In this role, she works toward the goal of doubling sourcing from women-owned businesses within Walmart’s 11 international markets. Previous to this role, she was the director of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation Corporate Citizenship Center's Women’s Economic Empowerment and Health and Wellness Issue Networks. Valikai earned an M.B.A. and M.P.A. from the MIT Sloan School of Management and the Harvard Kennedy School. In these programs, she specialized in sustainability, corporate responsibility, and international affairs. Kara has worked on various international development and local economic development projects around the world. Before embarking on graduate studies, she worked as a consultant for TechnoServe in Romania, Colombia, Chile, and Nicaragua. Valikai spent two years working for a microfinance rating agency, Planet Rating, in Peru where she led and executed financial risk and social ratings for microfinance institutions across Latin America. In addition, Kara has a background in finance and accounting. Valikai earned her CPA and holds a B.A. in Business-Economics from U.C. Santa Barbara.
